The Who of the Rwandan Genocide
The Hutus
The Hutus were the perpetrators of the Rwandan Genocide. They were an ethnic group that was classified against the Tutsi (the victims of the genocide) by the Belgian colonists in Rwanda, Africa. They inhabited the African Great Lakes region. Hutus were generally shorter and had wider noses. The Hutus were originally the workers and they were farmers.

The Tutsis
The Tutsis were an ethnic group that originally ruled in Rwanda before the genocide. They were targeted by the Hutus in the genocide. The Tutsis were taller and have narrower and longer noses and were generally considered more "white". The Hutus called the Tutsis "cockroaches" because they thought the Tutsis were dirty and disgusting. The Tutsis were called this because it dehumanized them. They were also classified by the Belgians.
General Romeo Dallaire
The Major-General of UNAMIR (United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda). He was in charge of moving the American citizens out of Rwanda, although there was one American who decided to stay behind to help the Tutsis.
The Interahamwe
A Rwandan terrorist group that caused much trouble in the Rwandan genocide. The Interahamwe was made up of Hutus. Was also responsible for distributing arms and machetes throughout Rwanda. They were made up of Hutus.
General Theoneste
Theoneste was in charge of establishing “self - defense units and acted with the local police in Rwanda. The local police weren’t exactly siding with a certain group completely. They tried to stop the mass killings of the Tutsis. When Hutu extremist groups continued to kill out of cold blood, the police were called into action to try to stop it. Leader of the RPF Rebels.
